In all the talks we’ve been having about adoption lately, the kids have had a lot of questions. Since my stepkids are here for Easter break, we’ve decided tonight is going to be “Family Meeting Night.” After dinner, we’re going to sit around the table and discuss the adoption process, how everything will work. All four kids will have the opportunity to share their concerns, how they are feeling, and ask any questions. So far, I have been trying to answer everything as best as I can, but I think it will be good for all us to sit together so everyone can hear what each other has to say.
I feel our kids are old enough (16, 15, 13, and 10) to be able to go through the process with us, and know everything we know– as we learn it. There might be some details about the child’s history we might not share right away, but for the most part–they are in this journey with us.
I want them to understand we are just as nervous and excited and overwhelmed as they are– and that we will go through this together.
This weekend we will spending Easter with my parents and my sisters’ family. We plan on discussing this with them also, and it will nice to know that our entire family is in the know.
Next up– husband’s family. Now that will be interesting.
