101 in 1,001 Days

Some of you might remember I started the “101 in 1,0001” project back on October 1, 2009.  It was project where I set 101 achievable goals for myself to be completed in 1,001 days (by June 28, 2012).  Little did I know my priorities would change a lot over time and I wouldn’t even want to achieve some of those goals anymore.

Still, I ended up completing 69 of the 101 goals.  Not too shabby!

But the Type-A in me still likes crossing things off a list, so I’m going to try again, with a brand-spanking new list of 101 goals to be completed in the next 1,001 days.

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1,001 days. Tasks must be specific with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined.  Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (require some amount of effort on your part).

Overwhelming

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday we were opening Christmas gifts? Yet today I flipped my calendar over to FEBRUARY.

Where did January go?

I remember when I was a kid, school years seemed to just DRAG. Summer vacation seemed like it would never get here. Now as an adult, I cannot believe that we are over halfway through yet another school year. My kids are growing up right before my eyes, and everything is happening so fast. I remember fondly having newborns, then infants, and then toddlers. I remember the first days of kindergarten. Now I look at my teenagers– my HIGH-SCHOOLERS– and I wonder where all the time went. I look at the baby of the family, realizing she will turn ELEVEN this year. My BABY? Eleven? This just cannot be.

I remember starting my list of 101 goals in 1,001 days, and here I sit today almost halfway through 1,001 days. I have several of the goals in progress, and 42 of the 101 goals are already completed.

In just two and a half years, we will be sending our first child to college. Within four and a half years, we should have our oldest three all in college at the same time. This scares me, because I know how fast these next four years will go.

My parents are turning 60 and retiring this year. I will turn 38 next month, and I have no idea why all of this seems so incredibly overwhelming to me.

But it does. Everything is happening incredibly fast, and there is no way to slow any of it down. We can enjoy it, we can remember it, and we can cherish it, but we can’t slow any of it down.

Healthy Again…

A couple weeks ago, I shared my motto for the new year

“Healthy Again in 2010″

I am not making any resolutions this year, as I already have enough small goals to work on through this year and next.

So, this year, it’s just a motto. No resolutions to write out, vow to accomplish, and then fizzle out on by February.

“Healthy Again in 2010″

A simple plan. To be healthier at the end of this year than I am right now.

Healthier in mind, body and spirit.

It’s a broad goal with 101 steps to getting there.

What’s your plan for the new year?

I’ve Gone Cold Turkey

You may think I have forgotten about my 101 in 1,001 list. You might think that I have fizzled out on it, like I usually do with big tasks and goals I make.

But, in all actuality, I’m still going strong.

Well, maybe not strong, but I’m still going.

While I am working on several items all at once, the one that is tough for me right now is #47.

Go ahead and read it. I’ll wait.

OK, #47.

“Take a Facebook break for 2 weeks.”

I am pleased to announce that today– November 10th, I am taking a break from Facebook.

I will not be checking in for TWO WEEKS, which is November 24th. I won’t be updating my status, I won’t be commenting, I won’t even be signing on to the site.

There are so many avenues out there to keep connected to people, besides just plain old emails and phone calls. There’s my blog, Twitter, text messaging, and on and on and on. I don’t need to see minute-by-minute accounts of people I haven’t seen since high school. I won’t die if I miss out on a quiz about what a good kisser I am, or if 25 people bombard me with notifications about Mafia Wars or Farm Town.

So, my dear Facebook, it’s “so long” for now. You are a big timesucker for me, and if this two weeks goes well, the break might last even longer.

The people I need to keep in touch with know how to find me.
