I knew there would be a lot of paperwork involved in the adoption process.
And yesterday, it finally started. We got an email confirming the dates, times and location of our classes (starting SOON!). At the bottom of the email was a list of several things we need to bring with us to class:
1. Copy of our driver’s licenses
2. Copy of our auto insurance policy for each vehicle
3. Proof of income (pay stubs or tax return)
4. Vaccination records on all of our pets
5. Copy of our marriage license
6. Copy of Mark’s divorce decree
7. Completed Health Reports on each family member (which means Courtney needs to go to the doctor next week, as she is the only one of us that hasn’t had a physical yet)
8. Signed HIV agreement (we have to decide if we will take a child that is HIV positive– more on this later)
And then, the real paperwork… all 66 pages worth. Paperwork for me, paperwork for Mark, paperwork for BOTH of us. There’s forms for each of our children to fill out. And this is just the beginning!
It’s really interesting to see some of the questions they ask:
1. How did you and your spouse meet?
2. What first attracted you to him?
3. What do your parents think of your decision to adopt?
4. What do your neighbors and co-workers think of your decision to adopt?
5. Which parent were you closer to as a child and why?
6. Which subjects were your favorite in school?
It goes on and on and on… basically collecting information about nearly every experience I have ever had, every job I have ever had, and every relationship I have ever had.
WOW.
We’re going to be BUSY.
I can’t wait.
